art therapy sessions
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that includes art making and exploring images in the therapeutic process. It offers you a different approach to communicate thoughts and feelings. Creating images can be a helpful way to communicate your inner world. These meaningful visuals can be reflected upon and can help to bring things into focus.
We are complex individuals with our own unique story. Past experiences play an important part in forming who we are and influence how we feel and relate to others.
Art Therapy offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where your story can begin to unfold, and you come to know yourself better. It is possible to explore recurring themes and patterns, and to enhance your self-awareness to help you better navigate your way in life. It offers a reparative process where consistently engaging in sessions with your therapist creates the possibility for personal development and change. It can increase your resilience, enhance your mental wellbeing, and enable you to develop healthier and more fulfilling family and social relationships.
What to expect
You will be invited for an initial consultation to explore your reasons for seeking help. This provides an opportunity to discuss your expectations about coming to therapy and what art therapy might be able to offer. You do not require any background or experience in art. You can use the art materials in a way that is meaningful to you and alternate between talking and artmaking as appropriate.
Appointments
Enquiries about coming for art therapy can be made by calling 0141 333-0730. We offer art therapy appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays during usual business hours.
An initial session can usually be arranged within a week of getting in touch. If you decide to proceed, you may agree with your therapist to come for a fixed number of sessions or to work in a more open-ended way. Sessions are weekly in regularity and ideally take place on the same day and at the same time each week. If you agree a fixed number of sessions, it is usually possible to continue beyond this initial contract if this is indicated.
